Lady Lions Fall in NCAA 1st Round to #8 Thomas More 5-1 to Finish 2015 Season

Need to Know
Score:  Piedmont 1 - Thomas More 5
Records:  Lady Lions 20-2-1 (10-1-1 USA South), Saints 18-0-2 (8-0-1 PAC)
Location: Crestview Hills, Kentucky - BB&T Field

Crestview Hills, KY - A shaky first half sank the Lady Lions' NCAA postseason hopes earlier today against #8 Thomas More College as the Piedmont College women's soccer team suffered a 5-1 defeat to finish the 2015 season.

Piedmont struggled to start allowing the first goal 1:29 in to go down 1-0 as Olivia Huber won a 50/50 tackle in the box and finished to the far post.  The Lady Lions settled in after the early score before a dynamic run from Julia Flagge-Echols opened up a scoring chance that the sophomore finished to put TMC up 2-0 in the 29th minute.

Looking to hold on before halftime, a free kick goal in the 41st minute and a scrambled score just two minutes later gave Piedmont a 4-0 deficit at the half.  Though PC was out-shot in the first half 11-1, the second half saw the Lady Lions own a 3-2 shot advantage as Piedmont tallied its second goal in NCAA postseason play in program history with a JAZMIN PENADO goal in the 67th.

That score by Penado set the final at 5-1 as TMC had picked up a goal in the 53rd with the Lady Lions falling in the NCAA National Tournament.  Piedmont finishes 2015 with the program's best single-season winning percentage and total wins with a 20-2-1 overall record.

Turning Point
--The Lady Lions were only two down headed into the final five minutes of the first half before a free kick goal in the 41st minute started a two-goal spark just before the break to put Thomas More comfortably up at home.

Standout Performances
--JAZMIN PENADO tallied the Lady Lions' second goal in NCAA play in the program's history when she put away a ball deflected around the box after CASSIDY REICH served a corner kick into the box.
--Olivia Huber of Thomas More scored twice and assisted on the Saints' second goal of the afternoon.

Inside the Box Score
--Three of the Saints' five goals on the afternoon came in either the first or final five minutes of the first half with two of those coming in the final 4:04 of the opening period.
--The Saints' Olivia Huber tallied multiple goals in a single game for the 8th time this season as she now leads the team with 26 on the year.

News & Notes
--For the second consecutive appearance, Piedmont notched a goal in their NCAA postseason with freshman JAZMIN PENADO tallying the score in the 67th minute off a CASSIDY REICH corner kick.
--Piedmont was shutout in its first NCAA showing back in 2011 3-0 to Emory before scoring its first goal in NCAA play two years later in the program's second appearance.

Wrapping Up 2015
Piedmont finishes the 2015 season with a 20-2-1 overall record marking the best winning percentage and total wins in a single season during the program's 20-plus year history.  The ten goals allowed on the season is also a new program best while PC will likely rank in the top 25 in the NCAA in several different statistical categories.
