Box Score DEMOREST, Georgia -- The Piedmont College women's basketball team dropped a 74-55 USA South Athletic Conference decision to visiting Maryville College Friday in Cave Arena. Maryville raced out to a 43-23 halftime lead and coasted to their eighth consecutive win.
In a fast-paced first half Maryville used transition baskets and second chance points off offensive rebounds to grab the early lead. The Scots created extra possessions with a gaudy 17 offensive rebounds in the first half. MC would finish the evening with 23 offensive rebounds and held a 55-41 advantage in the rebounding column.
Maryville (9-1, 3-0 USA South) would post its largest lead of 30 points with just under 13:00 remaining in the game before Piedmont would come to life. Piedmont would cut the lead to 13 (64-51) with 3:24 remaining but would run out of time to complete the rally.
Maryville would place four player in double-figures pace by a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds by Kierra Payne.
For Piedmont,
LAUREN ANDERSON was the highlight with a team-best 13 points. She completed her second double-double of the season with a game-high 13 rebounds along with five blocked shots.
LAUREN HAMEL again reached double figures with 10 points while
ALYSSA JONES turned in a solid line of eight points, five rebounds and three assists.
Maryville connected on 28-68 (41%) from the floor compared to Piedmont's 21-65 (32%).
Piedmont (4-5, 0-3 USA South) returns to action on short rest with another league contest with Ferrum College with tip off set for 4:00 PM.
