Piedmont College Athletic Communications

In the Lady Lions' 70-64 USA South loss at Methodist, senior point guard Alyssa Jones passed 800 career points as well as became the school's NCAA era career assists record holder.
Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, North Carolina -- The Piedmont College women's basketball team saw a furious second half rally come up just short in a 70-64 USA South Athletic Conference loss at Methodist University Sunday afternoon in MU's March F. Riddle Center.   Kiki Thompson recorded a team-high 13 points to lead the Lady Lions' offensive effort.

The Lions took a 37-35 lead into halftime after LAUREN HAMEL came up with a steal and converted a layup at the other end in the final seconds of the first half. Methodist then opened the second period on an 11-0 run to take a 46-35 lead at the 15:54 mark . The Monarch lead was still at nine points (54-45) after a basket at the 10:02 mark, but the Lions answered with a 10-1 run capped by a pair of free throws by LAUREN ANDERSON with 4:29 left to play that tied the game at 55 apiece.

However, MU would again respond with a 7-0 run take a 62-55 lead at the 2:39 mark and the Monarchs hit 8-of-10 free throws down the stretch in snuffing out the Piedmont rally.

The game featured eight lead changes as neither team would lead by more than eight points in the second half.  Methodist held a 42-28 (+14) advantage on the boards as Methodist tallied 21 extra possessions through offensive rebounds.

LAUREN HAMEL added 10 points, three assists and four steals for Piedmont while Anderson netted eight points and nine rebounds.

ALYSSA JONES contributed another solid line of eight points, four assists and five steals.  The senior guard also passed another pair of career milestones as she crested the 800 point scoring mark after reaching 500 career rebounds and 200 career steals earlier this season.  She also made her new mark on Piedmont's NCAA era career records book as her third assist of the day gave her 402 career helpers passing the previous career assists record of 401 held by Beth Adcock (2005-2009).

Christina Schrader led four Methodist (12-6, 7-4 USA South) players in double-figures with 17 points while Brianna Robinson added a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Piedmont (8-9, 4-7 USA South) returns to action on Saturday, February 2 with a 2:00 tip-off against NC Wesleyan College.
