Box Score DEMOREST, Georgia -- The Piedmont College women's basketball team picked up its second USA South Athletic Conference victory in as many days as the Lions Lions produced a 63-55 league win over the visiting Cougars of Averett University Sunday afternoon in Cave Arena. The Lady Lions' pressure defense held AU to just 19 second half points while forcing 22 turnovers on the day.
Averett (5-11, 4-5 USA South) held a 36-33 lead at half by virtue of 12 first half points by Mette Scheiman. Arina Covington would extend AU's lead to 38-33 with a jumper to open the second half but Piedmont would respond with a quick 8-0 run to jump back ahead 41-38. The game would feature 10 lead changes on the afternoon.
With both teams deadlocked at 50 apiece with 11:20 remaining the game would take a defensive turn with Piedmont holding Averett to just five points for the remainder of the contest. PC would grab control of the game with an 11-3 run spanning almost 10:00 to lead 61-53 with under 2:00 remaining.

LAUREN ANDERSON was a single rebound shy of her fourth double-double of the season as the senior forward collected a game-high 20 points and nine rebounds. She did most of her damage from the free throw line where she connected on 10-12 attempt for exactly half of her offensive output.
LAUREN HAMEL added 12 points on 6-12 shooting from the floor. Kiki Thompson put together one of her most impressive stat lines of the season with nine points, eight rebounds, five assists and six steals.
Scheiman led three Averett players in double-figures with a team-high 17 points and six rebounds.
Piedmont (8-7, 4-5 USA South) held a 41-31 advantage on the boards and was more productive from the field as the Lady Lions were 21-47 (45%) compared to AU's 21-58 (36%).
The game concludes a seven-game USA South home-stand for the Lady Lions as they will return to the road next weekend with a pair of games at Greensboro College and Methodist University.
