Box Score

Demorest, GA - Every Piedmont player on the roster played at least a quarter of the game as the Lady Lions rolled over Wesleyan 74-23 Thursday night inside Cave Arena.  The women held the Pioneers to just 11 first half points en route to the 51-point win.  Sophomore Danielle Hendrick led the offense with 14 points, highlighted by four 3-pointers.  The Lady Lions used all 13 players, as 12 recorded points.

The Lady Lions jumped out to an early 13-0 lead after junior Alyssa Jones drained a triple just five seconds into play.  Junior Keiondria Thompson hit a three and another bucket during the opening run.  Wesleyan struggled to get on the board, finally tallying two points nearly seven minutes into action.  The Pioneers shot just 22-percent from the field all game, but pulled within 10 as the midway point of the first was nearing.  Piedmont responded with 10 unanswered points while shutting out the Great South Athletic Conference opponents scoreless for over five minutes.  Jones and senior Amber Satterfield both hit key triples in the run that pushed the lead to 26-6 and still over eight minutes on the clock.

Jones hit her third tri-fecta just before the half as Piedmont held a very comfortable 34-11 lead going into the break.  As a team the women buried 11 deep shots, shooting 45-percent for the game.  They didn't let up to start the second half, stretching out 11 unanswered points, highlighted by a Satterfield trey and four other Lady Lions dropping in buckets.

Wesleyan converted a 3-point play to break the run, and Piedmont was starting to slow up after nearly four minutes went by without any more points, until freshman Charlotte Lewallen dialed long distance to get the women back on the board.  Hendrick then went to work, hitting a downtown jumper at the midway point, and collecting three more long range buckets the rest of the way.

As the game was winding down, Piedmont went on a 13-1 run that featured six points from senior Sada Wheeler and Hendrick's second 3-pointer, putting the women up 64-18 and under five to play.  The Lady Lions closed the game in similar fashion with a 10-2 run, including consecutive tri-fectas from Hendrick and a pair of baskets by freshman Caroline Hicks.

Wheeler and Jones both ended with 11 points following Hendrick's 14, while Thompson recorded 10 points as well.  The Lady Lions out-rebounded Wesleyan 48-22 and swiped 16 steals during the win.  Piedmont moves to 17-3 and 9-2 in GSAC play after its second win over Wesleyan.  In the first meeting back in early December, the Lady Lions won in similar fashion with a 60-26 victory, bringing the two-game score to 174-49.  Piedmont returns to action Saturday at home against Salem College, with tip-off slated for 2:00 pm.
