Box Score

Demorest, GA - Sada Wheeler made the most of her senior night as the Lady Lions handed Covenant College a 86-43 final line.  Piedmont held a 15-point lead at the half before exploding for nearly 50 more in the second half en route to the 43-point victory.  Wheeler nearly collected her second career double-double, going for 18 points, 14 rebounds and nine blocks in the win.  The women shot an incredible 51-percent from the floor and 83-percent at the charity stripe.

The Lady Lions jumped out to a 9-0 lead, with five points coming from junior Alyssa Jones.  Senior Amber Satterfield connected from long range to push the lead to 16-4 not even six minutes into action, as the women ran away with their 20th win of the season.  Piedmont was threatened when the Lady Scots pulled to within seven, but 11 unanswered points put the home crowd at ease.  Satterfield laid one up for an easy two to head into the locker room up 15.

Another 11-0 run for the home team at the beginning of the second stanza gave them a 23-point lead they wouldn't relinquish.  Moments later, Satterfield and sophomore Danielle Hendrick both buried deep threes to make the score 54-28 in favor of Piedmont with almost 15 minutes left to play.  Hendrick's next triple took the Lady Lions to a 70-37 lead with six-plus minutes remaining.  Freshman Caroline Hicks caught lightning in a bottle, nailing a tri-fecta shortly after, then following that up with a layup less than 20 seconds later.  The next bucket again came from Hicks on a shot inside the paint.

The emergence of Hicks was all part of a dominant 17-2 Piedmont run pushing the lead to 86-40 into the closing minutes.  Satterfield was effective on senior night with 16 points on four treys, while sophomore Lauren Hamel and freshman Elise Reyes added 11 and 10 points respectively.  Jones and Hicks closed with seven points each, while Hendrick and junior Keiondria Thompson both had six points.  Covenant struggled from the field, shooting just 30-percent on the night and being out-rebounded 46-28 by the home team.  Piedmont moves to 20-4 overall and 12-3 in Great South Athletic Conference play.  The Lady Lions wrap up the regular season Saturday when they travel to Huntingdon College.
