Contact: Timmy McCormack, Sports Information Director

Freshman Syndey Seitz posted a career-high 15 points on a perfect 6-of-6 night from the field in a 69-51 win over GSAC member Agnes Scott to help hand Head Coach Jamie Purdy her 100th career victory since arriving as Piedmont 's head coach in July of 2005.
Box Score

Demorest, GA -- The Piedmont College women's basketball team gave Head Coach Jamie Purdy a special treat by taking down the visiting Scotties of Agnes Scott College 69-51 earlier this evening in the Cave.  For Purdy, the win was her 100th at the helm of the successful Lady Lion hoops program moving her overall career record as a head coach to 132-75 (.626).

Each team posted a slow start combining for only 14 total points through the first five minutes of action.  With PC trailing 10-9 at the 14:13 mark of the first half, sophomore Alyssa Jones would give the home team back the advantage on a bucket from beyond the three-point arc.

The Scotties' one point margin at that 14:13 mark would be their final lead of the game as the Lady Lions controlled the Agnes Scott offensive attack with another trademark defensive stand.  Piedmont held visiting Agnes Scott scoreless for close to five minutes in the first half to claim a 41-27 lead at the intermission.

Following the break, PC continued to pressure the Scotties into key turnovers as Lauren Hamel turned a steal into two points for Piedmont on a fast break layup just over five minutes into the second half.  PC's margin would grow as large as 24 points on a Lauren Anderson jumper with 4:41 remaining as Piedmont cruised to its eighth Great South Athletic Conference victory of the season 69-51.

Newcomer Sydney Seitz had a breathrough night on the floor posting a career-high 15 total points while connecting on all six of her field goal tries.  The perfect shooting percentage marks the eighth time that the North Forsyth graduate has not missed a shot from the field as Seitz is now shooting just over 71% on the season.

Seitz was one of three Lady Lions scoring in double figures as teammate Laura Simmons collected 13 points hitting close to 50% of her field goal attempts on the evening.  Simmons was a perfect three of three from the charity stripe while also collecting a trio of rebounds for the squad.

Adding 12 points to the effort was junior Sada Wheeler who came within a pair of rebounds to posting her sixth double-double in her last seven appearances for the team.  Wheeler has now collected eight or more rebounds in the last five games for PC.

Sophomore Alyssa Jones keyed the offensive attack for PC at the point dishing out seven helpers to just a pair of turnovers in 29 minutes of action.  Jones was also good for seven points in the effort and grabbed three steals to help Piedmont to 27 points off 23 Agnes Scott turnovers.

The victory improves the Lady Lions to 14-5 overall while the team moves to 8-1 in GSAC play.  Piedmont will look to extend its current winning streak to four when they visit Salem College on Saturday, February 5 for a 2:00 afternoon match-up.
