Demorest, GA -- The Piedmont College women's basketball team cruised to its seventh straight win with a 56-36 victory in the Cave over visiting Covenant College earlier this evening.  The Lady Lions got a double-double from junior Sada Wheeler on their way to snagging their seventh home win of the 2010-11 season.

The Lady Lions had control from the start in a game that was tied only once at two a piece as Covenant never took the lead at any point in the night. Seven minutes into the contest, the lead had ballooned to double-digits care of a pair of Sada Wheeler free throws.

After nine Amber Satterfield points had helped PC take a 34-19 lead at the intermission, it was more of the same in the second half. When the two teams returned to action after the break, Piedmont began to take advantage Covenant's turnovers with 12 points off 11 second half turnovers from the visitors.

At the 13:20 mark of the second half, another Sada Wheeler bucket pushed the lead to 20 points, a margin that the Lions would not dip below from that point on. Piedmont went on to claim its seventh straight win 56-36 marking the third 20-point win in the Lady Lions' current winning streak.

Forward Sada Wheeler was the squad's points leader on the night pulling down 11 boards while tallying 14 total points on six of seven shooting from the field.  After missing her second shot of the evening, Wheeler was a perfect five of five down the stretch to help spur the home team on to the victory.

Also reaching double figures was the team's lone senior, Laura Simmons, who threw in 11 points to go nicely with her five rebounds.  Shooting five of 12 for the night, Simmons managed the double figure output despite playing only 18 minutes in the contest.

Junior Amber Satterfield posted 9 points that came by way of her hot shooting from behind the three-point arc in the early going.  Chipping in six points on 33% shooting from the field was Satterfield's classmate Shanice Wheeler who also led the squad with seven helpers.

The victory improves the Lady Lions to 11-4 overall and extends their current winning streak to seven straight games.  Piedmont will now ready for a GSAC showdown with Maryville College on Saturday, January 22 that features a battle between the top two teams in the conference.  Tip-off is set for 2:00 in the Cave.
