Demorest, GA -- The Piedmont College women's basketball team spoiled the ten-game winning streak of visiting Great South Athletic Conference member LaGrange College earlier this afternoon handing the Panthers an 85-72 loss, the squad's first defeat of the 2010-11 season.  The Panthers came into town with a perfect 10-0 record but left with a 13 point loss after Piedmont's post players put on a show including Sada Wheeler who had the squad's first six points on the way to earning her first career triple-double.

Piedmont had the undefeated Panthers on their heels from the early going building an eight point lead at 21-13 over the first seven minutes of play care of 16 combined points from post players Sada Wheeler and Laura Simmons.  The Lady Lions stayed in front throughout the rest of the first half but had their advantage cut down to a single point as LaGrange connected on a three-pointer with 34 seconds left in the first half.

That last minute trifecta made the score 36-35 in favor of the home team at the halftime break.  However, the Panthers showed that they came to play when they stole the lead after play resumed on a two-point jumper at the 18:13 mark.

Just as LaGrange looked to be pulling ahead allowing the Panthers to keep their perfect season alive, a pair of Amber Satterfield three-point buckets in less than a minute gave PC a one-point lead midway through the second half.  As time ticked down, Piedmont's lead continued to grow down the stretch as four Alyssa Jones free throws balloned the Lady Lion lead to 16 on the way to the eventual 85-72 win.

Forward Sada Wheeler led all scorers with her 28 total points coming within one point of her career high 29 she posted on February 6, 2010 in a conference win at Huntingdon College.  Wheeler's defensive play also became a storyline on Friday afternoon as the junior pulled down ten rebounds and blocked ten shots to earn the first triple-double of her stellar Piedmont career.

Contributing to the excellent post play for the Lady Lions was veteran forward Laura Simmons whose 24 points came on 11 of 16 shooting from the field.  Simmons posted timely buckets with the game in hand including a pair of key back-to-back jumpers that came at the 10:29 mark of the second half extending PC's lead to five points.

Also cresting the 20-point plateau was junior Amber Satterfield, Piedmont's deadly outside shooter, who connected on close to 60% of her shots from the field.  The McCaysville, GA native was two assists shy of her own double-double in another clutch performance for the Lady Lions.

Overwhelming the Panthers was the three-headed monster of Satterfield, Simmons, and Wheeler who combined to score 73 of Piedmont's 85 points on the day.  Point guard Alyssa Jones led the show for PC doing work on the boards by snagging ten rebounds to go nicely with her seven points on the day.

The win improves Piedmont to 9-4 overall while keeping the Lady Lions perfect in GSAC play at 4-0.  The squad will look to build on the momentum of its current five-game winning streak as they host conference member Salem College for a 2:00 tip-off on Sunday, January 16.
