The Piedmont College women's basketball team put together a late second half rally but came up short in an 85-77 Great South Athletic Conference loss at Maryville College this afternoon in both team's regular-season finale.  Piedmont wraps up the regular season with a 12-13 overall record and 10-4 mark in league play.

The host Lady Scots jumped out to a 13-3 lead early in the game and held a comfortable double-figure advantage for the remainder of the half.  Maryville would lead by 22 (47-25) with just under four minutes before intermission only to see the Lady Lions close with a 12-5 run to cut the lead to 15 at the half way point.

To start the second frame a 5-0 run including a three-pointer by freshman Alyssa Jones and a low post basket by Sada Wheeler would trim the host's lead to just 10.   The remainder of the half saw Maryville hold a double-digit lead until 3:27 remaining (76-64).  Another quick 5-0 PC run would trim the lead to 76-69 with just over 2:00 remaining.  The Lady Scots would connect on their free throws lat and hold on for the eight-point victory.

On the afternoon, PC placed five players in double-figures led by Wheeler's team-best 16 points and seven rebounds. Jones, who dished out a game-high eight assists, teammed with Lindsey Wiley to score 11 apiece as the duo connected on 4-8 shots from three-point land.  Lisa Jennings and Laura Simmons each contributed with 10 points apiece.

Piedmont will now enter next week's GSAC Tournament as the third seed and will host sixth-seeded Salem College on Tuesday, February 23rd at 7:00 PM in the Johnny Mize Center in a quarterfinal play-in game.  The winner will advance to the final four set to be contested at Agnes Scott College in Decatur, GA on Friday and Saturday.
