Panthers Snaps Lady Lions' Six-Game Winning Streak 80-69

Newcomer Alyssa Jones posted her first career double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds in the Lady Lions' 80-69 loss to visiting LaGrange College at Cave Arena.

With second place in the Great South Athletic Conference at stake the Piedmont College women's basketball team fell to visiting LaGrange College this afternoon at Cave Arena by the score of 80-69. The game featured 23 lead changes and 12 ties and saw the Panthers ending the game on a 16-3 run en route to the victory.

After LC took a 10-4 advantage at the 16-minute mark the teams played even over the course of the next 13 minutes. With the score 29-23 in favor of the visitors the Lady Lions ended the first period on a 5-0 mini-run to enter the locker room trailing by a single point.

The second half saw neither team lead by more than three points as the Lady Lions led 64-62 with five minutes remaining. The Panthers exploded for a 15-2 run capitalizing on three turnovers. LaGrange sealed the win connecting on 6-7 free-throws in the final minute and a half for the win.

Point guard Alyssa Jones notched her first career double double with 14 points and 10 rebounds as well as four assists. Laura Simmons added 15 points on 7-10 (70%) attempts from the floow while Sada Wheeler and Lisa Jennings chipped in with 14 and 13 points apiece.

The loss snaps the Lady Lions' six-game winning streak and moves the squad to 11-12 overall and 9-3 in the GSAC. The women will return to action again on Wednesday, February 17th as they host conference foe Wesleyan College at Cave Arena starting at 5:00.
