Demorest, GA -- The Piedmont College women's basketball team could not make it two in a row falling to the visiting Panthers of Ferrum College 77-67 in the Cave earlier tonight.  Though PC shot close to 50% from the field in the second half, Piedmont was ice cold from behind the arc hitting only 25% of their second half three-point attempts after shooting just 10% from distance in the first half.
After the score stayed tight through the first ten minutes of play with the two schools knotted at 11-11, the visiting Panthers would explode offensively to make a 24-9 run to end the first half.  Ferrum claimed a 35-20 lead at the half despite having failed to connect on any of their three-point attempts.
Following the break, Piedmont would climb right back in the contest going on a run of their own quickly chalking up six points sparked by a
Laura Simmons jumper to cut Ferrum's 15 point halftime lead down to single digits.  Though PC continued to keep pace with the Panthers down the stretch, Ferrum's run to end the first half would prove to be enough as the visitors held on for the ten point victory.
Senior
Laura Simmons notched 15 point in the loss shooting better than 50% from the field with her single miss coming from three-point land, where the Lady Lions struggled to get it going.  The Gainesville, GA native also pulled down three rebounds and had a trio of assists to only one turnover.
A pair of Lady Lions tallied 12 points a piece as juniors
Amber Satterfield and
Shanice Wheeler each went for a dozen on the night.  Forward
Jordan Gustavel gave Head Coach
Jamie Purdy's squad a boost off the bench with her ten points and four boards.
Leading the way on the glass for the home team was post presence
Sada Wheeler who grabbed seven rebounds while also earning her way to six points.  Sophomore
Alyssa Jones collected five rebounds of her own to add to four points in the contest.
The loss drops Piedmont to an even 4-4 on the season.  The Lady Lions will look to bounce back quickly as they host another USA-South member on Friday, December 17 as the Monarchs of Methodist roll into town for a 1:00 tip-off.
