Demorest, GA --
In front of the largest crowd of the season the Piedmont College women's basketball team handed visiting Great South Athletic Conference member Maryville College its first conference loss of the season 72-63. The Lady Lions placed four in double figures led by senior Lisa Jennings and her game-best 22 points including five tri-fectas.

Trailing 4-2 just one minute into regulation the home-standing Lady Lions took the final lead change of the night with a 6-0 spurt off a pair of three-pointers. After the Scots cut the deficit to 18-16 with seven minutes remaining Piedmont ended the period on a 15-6 spurt highlighted with three baskets from behind the arc.

PC opened the second frame with the first six points to increase the margin to 40-22 with 18 minutes remaining. The women would stretch the advantage to 17 points with 11 minutes remaining but saw the Scots use a 15-5 spurt off of four turnovers to get within six.

The Lady Lions held their ground and hit 8-10 attempts from the charity-stripe to seal the win in the closing minutes. When the final buzzer sounded PC took the nine-point decision to improve to 6-2 in the Great South.

Newcomer Alyssa Jones added 18 points and six rebounds, three on the offensive end, while Amber Satterfield and Sada Wheeler posted 12 and 10 points apiece. Senior Mandy Beasley added a game-high 10 rebounds.

The Lady Lions are now 8-11 overall and 6-2 in GSAC play and on a three-game winning streak.  The team will return to action again on Thursday, February 4th as they host conference member Agnes Scott at Cave Arena beginning at 6:00.
