Zack Kunz led the offense going 5-8 including a two-run homer in the Lions' doubleheader sweep over Montclair State and Greensboro this afternoon at Loudermilk Field.
The Piedmont College baseball team completed a perfect 3-0 weekend with a pair of victories today against Montclair State University 14-6 and Greensboro College 5-4 in the friendly confines of Loudermilk Field. The Lions exploded with 18 hits in the first game and rallied with three runs in their final two at-bats to take the nightcap and complete the sweep.

PC opened game one versus MSU with five runs on six hits in the first inning highlighted by three consecutive RBI-knocks. The Lions tacked on a single run in the second, three in the third and three in the fourth to take a 12-2 lead. The margin was more than enough for starter ANDY GRAF who went six and a third innings allowing five runs while striking out eight.

Of the squad's 18 hits, six went for extra bases. JARED VERMILYA led the offensive explosion going 3-4 with four RBI's while JUSTIN VORHERR went 3-5 with two runs scored.

In the finale versus Greensboro the Lions jumped out with two runs in the first on a two-run single off the bat of Vermilya. The Pride posted four runs in the top of the fourth on three hits and an error. The 4-2 lead would hold until the bottom of the seventh when Zack Kunz blasted a two-out two-run homer to leftcenter to knot the score.

After a scoreless top of the eighth the Lions tallied the eventual game winning run off a COREY LINDSEY sacrifice fly to centerfield plating Vorherr who led the inning off with a double. MATT BURGESS went eight complete innings for the victory allowing four runs, one earned, while striking out a career high nine. JOSH MCEACHIN threw a perfect ninth for his first save of the season.

The Lions, who now stand at 9-5 overall, will travel to Rocky Mount, NC to take on North Carolina Wesleyan College on Monday, February 9th beginning at 1:00.
