In the second day of the Maryville College Tournament this afternoon the Piedmont College softball team defeated Centre College by the score of 9-3. The Lady Lions outhit the visitors 10-1 en route to their third victory of the season and a 2-1 mark in the tournament.
PC's offense was up to the task scoring in five of the six innings, three of which were multiple runs. After taking a 3-0 advantage into the top of the fourth inning Centre answered with three runs to tie the score. The Lady Lions quickly answered with six unanswered runs over the next three innings to seal the win.
Starter
B.J. COFER was dominant going the distance for the win. Cofer allowed a mere one hit while striking out five.
Freshman
KELLIE EDMONDSON led the offense going 2-3 with three RBI's and a run scored.
MICHELLE WAGNER and
HANNAH MCKAY also added a pair of hits while
LEAH DELLA TORRE chipped-in with a pair of runs scored.
The victory moves Piedmont to 3-6 overall. The squad will return ot the field tomorrow, March 9th in the final day of the Maryville College Invitational against Eureka College beginning at 12:00.
