Eleven-Run Fourth Inning Leads Baseball Past Guilford

Senior Andy Graf picked up his first victory of the season going five innings in the Lions' 22-5 win over Guilford College in Greensboro, NC.
After being left on the field in heartbreaking fashion yesterday, the Piedmont College baseball team responded to defeat Guilford College in Greensboro, NC by the score of 22-5. The Lions exploded with an 11-run fourth inning that saw ten consecutive men reach base to split the season series with the Quakers.

PC posted five runs on three hits in the top of the first to take the early advantage. Both teams traded single runs in the second and the home team notched a three-run third to pull within two at 6-4. The Lions quickly answered with 11 runs on five hits highlighted by a JARED VERMILYA two-run blast, his first of the season.

After Guilford scored its final run in the sixth PC tacked on five insurance runs in the eighth as BLAKE ALBERTSON posted a two-out bases clearing triple. On the afternoon the Lions pounded out 16 hits, six of which went for extra bases.

Senior ANDY GRAF picked up his first win of the season on the mound going five strong innings while striking out three. JUSTIN VORHERR led the offense going 3-4 with a pair of runs scored and driven in respectively. In addition six PC hitters took hit by pitches and the offense produced seven stolen bases.

The Lions will host Millsaps College in the home opener tomorrow, February 9th at Loudermilk Field with first pitch scheduled for 3:00.
