Huntingdon Rallies Late To Take 77-68 Decision

Junior Michael Rubio led four in double figures with 14 points in the Lions' 77-68 loss to Huntingdon this afternoon in Cave Arena.
The Piedmont College men's basketball team fell to visiting Great South Athletic Conference foe Huntingdon College this afternoon by the score of 77-68 in Cave Arena. The Hawks rallied down the stretch to erase a double digit lead and hand the Lions the nine-point defeat. 

In a first half that featured seven lead changes and six ties PC held the largest advantage at 17-11 with 12 minutes remaining. Huntingdon responded with an 8-0 run over a two minute span that featured a pair of tri-fectas. The Lions answered in the final four minutes with a 10-2 run forcing four turnovers from the visitors. Piedmont entered the locker room with the slim 38-35 advantage.

In the second half the home team extended the lead to a game high 10 points with 11 minutes remaining. The Hawks went on a 12-2 run to tie the score for the final time at 55-55 with eight minutes remaining in regulation.

After three lead changes and the Lions clinging to 64-63 lead the visitors notched a 6-0 run to take control. PC cut the lead to three but could get no closer and walked away with the nine-point defeat.

TRACEY GARDNER led the Lions with a double double of 14 points and 13 rebounds. Micahel Rubio also posted 14 points while JUSTIN RUSH and MIKE CHATMAN added 13 points respectively. Chris Roberts led four Hawks in doubel figures with a game high 19 points.

Piedmont, now 8-14 overall, 0-4 Great South, will return to the hardwood on Saturday, February 14th as the team travels to LaGrange College in LaGrange, GA with tip-off scheduled for 4:00.
