The Scotties of Agnes Scott College entered Cave Arena this evening and defeated the Piedmont College women's basketball team by the score of 66-59. The victory gives ASC a regular season series sweep over the Lady Lions who fall to 3-4 in the Great South Athletic Conference.
Piedmont (5-14) held a slim 11-10 advantage early in the first half but the visitors responded with an 8-0 run that spanned three minutes and was sparked by a pair of tri-fectas. The Scotties would maintain control and led 22-21 with two minutes remaining.
The teams would trade baskets before junior LISA JENNINGS connected on a deep three-pointer with three ticks left on the clock to send the Lady Lions into the locker room with momentum as well as a 26-24 advantage.
In the second frame PC hit the first two baskets of the half and led by six, its largest margin of the game. The Scotties rallied with a 9-0 run capitilizing on a pair of turnovers and three missed shots. The teams would trade the lead four times over the next five minutes with the Lady Lions holding their final lead of the night 54-53.
Agnes Scott hit six consecutive points with less than two minutes remaining to regain control. Inside the final 30 seconds the visitors hit four consecutive free throws to seal the Lady Lions' fate and the seven-point decision.
COURTNEY ODUM led three teammates in double figures with 14 points including 4-6 from behind the arc. AMBER SATTERFIELD and LISA JENNINGS followed with 11 points apiece while BETH ADCOCK added a team best nine boards. For the Scotties Morgan Smith led the way with a game high 23 points including her 1,000th career point in the first half.
The Lady Lions will return to action on Saturday, February 7th as they host conference foe Huntingdon College at Cave Arena beginning at 2:00.
