Women's Basketball Eliminated From GSAC Tournament

Courtney Odum led three teammates in double figures with 16 points in the Lady Lions' 66-59 loss to Maryville College in semifinal action of the GSAC tournament.

The Piedmont College women's basketball team saw its season come to an end this afternoon in the semifinals of the GSAC Championship falling to tournament host and top seeded Maryville College by the score of 66-59. The Lady Lions finish the 2008-09 campaign with an overall record of 10-16.

With the score knotted 8-8 with 13 minutes remaining in the first half the Lady Scots went on an 11-1 run behind three tri-fectas to take control of the action. MC stretched the lead to a half high 14 points before the Lady Lions closed the final three minutes on an 11-4 run to enter the locker room trailing 32-25.

Eight minutes into the second frame Piedmont cut the margin to one point. The home team posted an 11-4 stretch to take a 52-44 with seven minutes remaining. The Lady Lions rallied with a 14-6 stretch to tie the score 58-58 highlighted by four tri-fectas. PC could never take the lead as the Lady Scots finished regulation hitting eight of the final nine points for the 66-59 victory.

The home team dominated in the paint holding the advantage 28-14. The Lady Lions forced 14 turnovers that led to 16 points but MC's depth paid off as its bench posted 22 points. Piedmont held a slim edge in shooting percentage (37%-35%) while the Lady Scots hit 24-37 from the charity stripe compared to the visitors 17 attempts.

COURTNEY ODUM paced three teammates in double figures with 16 points including 4-9 from behind the arc. BETH ADCOCK and LISA JENNINGS added 14 points respectively while KAYLA DUNCAN added eight points and seven rebounds in only 14 minutes of action.
