The Piedmont College men's basketball team fell to non-conference host Warren-Wilson College this evening in Asheville, NC by the score of 81-68. The game marked the first in the NCAA Division-III era that the Lions failed to connect on a single three point basket.
In a back and forth first half Piedmont held a 26-25 advantage with three minutes remaining but saw the lead disappear as the home team posted a 13-5 run to close the half. When the teams entered the locker room Warren-Wilson held the 38-31 advantage.
WWC tacked on the first seven points in the second frame and led 59-41 with 11 minutes remaining in regulation. The Lions responded with an 11-2 run to cut the led to nine with just under 10 minutes remaining. With three minutes remaining and PC down eight the home team finished the game hitting 10-12 free throws to seal the win.
MICHAEL RUBIO notched 15 points and three steals, both team highs. J.C. HEREBIA posted 14 points in only 14 minutes of action converting 7-12 from the floor while freshmen JOSH HAYMORE and MIKE CHATMAN added nine points apiece.
The loss extends the Lions' losing streak to six games drops Piedmont to 8-17 overall. PC will take on top-seeded Maryville College in the Great South Athletic Conference Tournament on Friday, February 27th in Maryville, TN with game time scheduled for 7:30.
