In the first day of the Rawlings Southern Classic the Piedmont College baseball team split a pair of games this afternoon at Loudermilk Field falling to Rhodes College 10-7 but rebounding to defeat Greensboro College 12-3 in the nightcap. The split moves the Lions to an even 4-4 on the young season.
Against Rhodes, the Lynx jumped out with four runs in the top of the second. The Lions answered with a single run in the third as
KEVIN MCCONNELL connected on his first homerun. PC tied the game in the fourth with three runs as
COREY LINDSEY drove in a pair with a single up the middle.
Piedmont took the lead in the sixth as
JARED MOON came through with a two-out RBI single plating
JUSTIN VORHERR. Rhodes answered with a single run in the seventh and exploded for five runs on four hits in the eighth. The Lions tried to rally with a pair in the ninth, but fell short and dropped the three-run decision.
In the finale PC scored first in the top of the fourth with a single run only to see the Pride tie the score in the home half. The Lions took the final lead of the game in the fifth with four runs on three hits. After GC posted two in the sixth inning, Piedmont scored seven over the final three innings to pull away with the 12-3 win.
Against Greensboro
ANDREW MIGETZ paced the offense going 3-4 with two RBI's and four runs scored while
ZAC STEIN went 1-2 with three walks and three stolen bases.
ANDY GRAF picked up the victory going six and two-thirds inning allowing three runs while scattering nine hits and striking out five.
The Lions will return to the field again tomorrow, February 21st as they host Ferrum College at Loudermilk Field beginning at 3:00.
