The Piedmont College baseball team completed its first series sweep this afternoon against visiting Sewanee-University of the South at Loudermilk Field by the score of 17-8. The Lions pounded out 16 hits and scored in five of their eight innings offensively en route to the win.
PC now stands at an even 3-3 overall and will return to action again on Friday, February 20th as they host Rhodes College at Loudermilk Field beginning at 2:00.
Sewanee jumped out with a pair of runs in the top of the second to take an early lead. The Lions answered in the home half of the third as
JARED MOON and
ZAC STEIN posted back to back doubles and
COREY LINDSEY added an RBI-single two batters later.
After the Tigers added a single run in the fourth Piedmont answered with a six runs on seven hits that included a pair of stolen bases. The Lions would tack on three in the fifth, one in the sixth and five in the seventh to put the game out of reach.
ZAC STEIN led the offense going 2-2 with an RBI and five runs scored. Zack Kunz posted a 2-3 game with three runs batted in and a pair of runs scored.
MATT BURGESS went five innings allowing three earned runs for his first victory of the season.
