For the third time this season the Piedmont College women's basketball team dropped a Great South Athletic Conference game, this afternoon at the hands of Maryville College in Maryville, TN by the score of 72-63. The loss drops the Lady Lions to 3-3 in the conference standings, and 5-13 overall.
PC jumped out to an early 16-13 advantage but the home team rallied with three consecutive tri-fectas to retake the advantage. The Scots took control at the end of the first half holding the Lady Lions to a single field goal for the final eight minutes. When the teams retired to the locker room MC held the 39-25 advantage.
In the second frame Piedmont trailed by a game high 18 points with 10 minutes remaining but rallied with some outside shooting. The Lady Lions connected on five tri-fectas down the stretch and pulled to within six at 67-61 with thirty seconds remaining. The Scots iced the victory at the line connecting on 5-6 free throws to seal the win.
BETH ADCOCK led three in double figures with 14 points including 5-6 from the charity stripe.
LAURA SIMMONS and
LISA JENNINGS posted 11 and 10 points respectively while Simmons added a team best eight rebounds. Maryville placed four in double figures led by Natalie Munday's game best 17 points.
The Lady Lions hit 21-57 (37%) from the floor and were outrebounded 44-34. Piedmont connected on 9-28 (32%) from behind the arc and forced 15 turnovers.
The women will return to the hardwood on Wednesday, February 4th as they host GSAC member Agnes Scott College at Cave Arena beginning at 6:00.
