Demorest, GA -- In the 2009-10 home opener the Piedmont College women's basketball team fell to in-state rival Emory University by the score of 65-63. After rallying from 10 points down to knot the score with 12 seconds remaining the visiting Eagles hit the game winner with only three ticks remaining for the victory.

PC, now 2-8 overall, will return to action again on Monday, January 4th as they play host to Great South Athletic Conference member Salem College at Cave Arena beginning at 6:00.

In a back and forth first half that featured four lead changes and six ties Emory led by as many as seven with just over six minutes remaining. The Lady Lions could not chip away at the deficit and enter the locker room trailing 31-25.

After the Eagles stretched the lead to 37-27 just two minutes into the second frame the Lady Lions answered with a 19-9 run over the next eight minutes to take the slight advantage. During the streak newcomer Alyssa Jones posted seven points and a pair of steals.

With the game tied 55-55 with six minutes remaining the visitors went on a mini 8-3 run to lead by five with two minutes remaining. The Eagles were leading by four with 40 seconds remaining and were shooting a pair at the line setting up the dramatics.

After a pair of misses and an Emory foul Shanice Wheeler connected on the first, and after missing the second got her own rebound and found Mandy Beasley who drained a tri-fecta to knot the score at 63-63. After a timeout the Eagles hit a running basket and after a last-ditch effort the win was sealed.

Newcomer SADA WHEELER led three in double figures with 12 points while Jones and senior Lisa Jennings added 10 points respectively. Jones also contributed five steals and four assists while SHANICE WHEELER led the squad with six rebounds.
