Danville, VA -- The Piedmont College women's basketball team dropped a tight 47-43 decision to host Averett University this afternoon in AU's Grant Center to fall to 0-3 on the season. The Lady Lions led 25-21 at the break but a dismal 6-21 (28%) in the second half cost the team its first victory of the season.

Mandy Beasley put Piedmont up by eight 31-24 with just over 17 minutes remaining but the team would manage to score only 12 more points over the remainder of the entire contest. PC also turned the ball over a season-high 34 times against the AU defense.
Alyssa Jones led the Lions with a team-high 15 points and seven rebounds while Beasley added nine points. PC's shooting problems were also evident from the free throw line were the squad missed 10 shots (8-18).
Piedmont will continue its two-game road swing through the USA-South Athletic Conference with a road game versus Ferrum College in Ferrum, VA set for 2:00.
