Lady Lions Drop Close Season Opener In Colorado 68-65

Amber Satterfield scored a team-high 18 points in the Lady Lions' season-opening loss to Augustana College at the Colorado College Tip-Off Classic.

A late surge in the second half propelled Augustana College to a victory over the Piedmont College women's basketball team in the squad's 2009-2010 season opener.  The game was part of the Colorado College Tip-Off Classic with PC set to square off against the host Tigers on Sunday at 6:00 PM. 

Augustana opened the game on fire, racing out to a 23-4 advantage in the first eight and a half minutes of action. Trailing by 19, Piedmont started a rally of its own, cutting the deficit to single digits at 29-22 after back-to-back three point baskets by Amber Satterfield with 5:44 remaining in the first half. Piedmont continued its run, eventually tying the game at 33-33 with 1:00 minute left and edging out in front 34-33 at the break.

The game was knotted at 40-40 early into the second half before the Lady Lions started to pull ahead outscoring the Vikings 13-3 over the next four and a half minutes to take a 53-43 lead with 12:03 remaining. The lead eventually grew to 11 points before Augustana made its stretch run to earn the come from behind victory. 

AC hit a three point bucket with 2:36 to play to put the Vikings in front to stay 63-62. AC made five free throws down the stretch to push the lead to 68-62 before a Piedmont three point basket with three seconds remaining finished off the scoring for the night. 

Satterfield led Piedmont with 18 points. Mandy Beasley# was also in double figures with 11 points.   11 different Lady Lions scored points on the evening with 15 players seeing action on the floor.  

Piedmont forced 27 AC turnovers on the night, but was outrebounded on the glass by 16 (44-28).
