In the first Great South Athletic Conference matchup of the season the Piedmont College women's basketball team fell to host Agnes Scott College this evening in Decatur, GA by the score of 65-54. After an even score at halftime the Scotties took over in the second frame hitting 46% of their shots including five tri-fectas en route to the 11-point win.
ASC remains atop the GSAC standings at 2-0, 5-5 overall, while Piedmont slides to 1-10, 0-1 GSAC. The Lady Lions will hit the road again on Monday, January 12th as they travel to in-state rival Emory University in Atlanta, GA starting at 6:00.
PC opened the game hitting the first five points and extended the lead to 17-6 with 12 minutes remaining, its largest lead of the night, as all five players connected from the field.. The home team rallied with a 12-2 run ovr the next seven minutes to close the gap to a single point. The final two minutes of the first frame featured a pair of lead changes and ties as the two teams entered the locker room with the score knotted at 24-24.
After nine minutes in the second half the Lady Lions held their final lead of the game at 39-37 before the home team posted an 11-2 run to regain control of the action. PC could not cut into the lead and trailed by at least nine points for the remainder of regulation and walked away with the 65-54 defeat.

LAURA SIMMONS led three teammates in double figures with 12 points while
COURTNEY ODUM and
MANDY BEASLEY chipped in with 11 and 10 respectively.
BETH ADCOCK posted eight boards and four assists, both team highs.
The Lady Lions forced 24 turnovers which led to 18 points including a season best 17 steals. The Scotties controlled the glass pulling down 48 rebounds. PC connected on just 16-64 (25%) shots from the floor including a dismal 5-27 (17%) from behind the arc.
