For the first time this season the Piedmont College women's basketball team scored a season high 90 points to upend Great South Athletic Conference host Wesleyan College in Macon, GA 90-56. The victory marks the third straight for the Lady Lions, who now move to 3-2 in the GSAC.
The Lady Lions jumped out early hitting eight of the first nine points, and then posting a 12-0 run over four minutes highlighted by six different players connecting from the floor. The women would lead by as many as 28 and entered the locker room with a comfortable 51-27 advantage.
Wesleyan could find no answer in the second frame and trailed by 25 with 10 minutes to go. The Lady Lions put the game out of reach with a 13-1 run as
COURTNEY ODUM knocked down a pair of tri-fectas. Piedmont would coast to the finish line and walk away with the 34-point decision.
Piedmont forced 31 Pioneer turnovers that led to 29 points and the team recorded 35 points off the bench. The Lady Lions connected on 13 three-pointers and hit 33-68 (49%) shots from the floor.
LISA JENNINGS posted a game high 14 points including 4-5 from behind the arc.
SHANICE WHEELER added 13 points off the bench as well as a team best eight rebounds.
COURTNEY ODUM and
BETH ADCOCK added 12 and 11 points apiece while
MANDY BEASLEY notched a game high six steals. The women used a balanced scoring attack that featured 11 different players recording points.
The win moves PC to 5-12 overall and extends the season long winning streak to three. The Lady Lions will travel to Maryville, TN to take on conference host Maryville College at 2:00.
