The Piedmont College women's basketball team defeated visiting LaGrange College this evening at Cave Arena by the score of 85-78 to pick up its first Great South Athletic Conference victory of the season. The Lady Lions placed four players in double figures led by freshman
AMBER SATTERFIELD's career high 19 points.
The victory moves PC to 3-12 overall and 1-2 in the conference. The Lady Lions will host GSAC member Spelman College on Saturday, January 24th beginning at 2:00.
In a first half that featured seven lead changes and ties the Panthers held their largest lead of the game at 21-17 with nine minutes remaining. Piedmont answered with a 10-3 run as
LISA JENNINGS hit a pair of tri-fectas. With the score knotted 31-31 with just over three minutes to go the Lady Lions ended the first frame on a 6-2 run that featured a perfect 6-6 from the charity stripe.
Seven minutes into the second half LaGrange tied the score for the ninth and final time 47-47. PC exploded for a 19-2 run as
SHANICE WHEELER notched seven points and three offensive boards. The Panthers tried to rally cutting the lead under ten with a minute to go, but could not overcome the deficit and dropped the seven-point decision.
The Lady Lions forced 16 turnovers that led to 22 points and recorded 26 points in the paint. For the game PC shot 42% from the floor and rained in 8-20 (40%) three-pointers.
Four women reached double figures as
LAURA SIMMONS and
BETH ADCOCK posted 18 points apiece.
LISA JENNINGS closely followed with 17 including a game high five assists. Valeree Williams led LC with a game high 24 points to lead five teammates in double figures.
