In the second Great South Athletic Conference game of the season the Piedmont College women's basketball team fell to Huntingdon College this afternoon in Montgomery, AL by the score of 61-53. The Lady Lions fall to 2-12 overall and 0-2 in the GSAC.
After the home team jumped out to a 21-8 advantage PC rallied with a 15-0 run over the next five minutes to regain the lead. Both teams traded baskets down the stretch and the Lady Lions were able to enter the locker room with a slim 29-26 advantage.
The Lady Hawks answered in the second half and knotted the score at 47-47 with just over seven minutes remaining. Piedmont went cold and allowed five consecutive points from the home team, who maintained the lead for the remainder of regulation. When the final buzzer sounded HC walked away with the eight-point victory.
BETH ADCOCK and MANDY BEASLEY led the squad with 11 points each while COURTNEY ODUM also reached doubel figures with 10 points including 3-5 from behind the arc. LISA JENNINGS chipped in with eight points and a nine rebounds while Beasley pulled down a game high five offensive boards.
With neither team shooting better than 34% from the floor the Lady Lions committed 24 turnovers that led to 23 points. PC was impressive behind the tri-fecta connecting on 5-13 (42%) shots. The game featured 11 lead changes and seven ties.
The victory marks only the second time Huntingdon has defeated the Lady Lions since joining the Great South Athletic Conference. The women will look to rebound on Wednesday, January 21st as they host conference foe LaGrange College at Cave Arena beginning at 6:00.
