It was a career night for guard
COURTNEY ODUM as she posted 39 points including 9-10 from behind the arc leading the Lady Lions to an 80-63 victory over local rival Toccoa Falls College in Cave Arena. Odum's point total eclipsed the previous NCAA Division-III era record of 38 while her nine tri-fectas pass the old mark of six for a single game.
The victory snapped PC's 11-game losing streak that dated back to November 15th. The Lady Lions improve to 2-11 overall and will travel to Great South Athletic Conference host Huntingdon College in Montgomery, AL on Saturday, January 17th with tip-off scheduled for 2:00 CST.
After both teams traded a basket to open the action the visiting Eagles went on a 5-0 run to take their largest advantage of the night. The Lady Lions responded to tie the score 16-16 and went on a 13-2 run forcing five turnovers. When the half ended PC entered the locker room with a comfortable 12-point advantage.
In the second frame the Eagles went on an 8-3 run to cut the lead to seven which proved to be as close as they would get. At the nine minute mark the Lady Lions regained control with a 17-7 run highlighted five tri-fectas, three coming off Odum's hot hand. Piedmont's largest lead came with less than a minute remaining at 19, and walked away with the 80-63 decision.
In addition to Odum's career night of 39 points the sophomore added a pair of steals and offensive rebounds respectively.
LISA JENNINGS chipped in with 11 points and a game best seven steals while
BETH ADCOCK added nine rebounds and eight assists, both game highs.
The women shot a season best 32-68 (47%) from the floor as well as connecting on 13-25 (52%) from behind the arc. The Lady Lions forced 25 turnover that led to 23 points and notched 19 assists. Piedmont also recorded baskets from 10 different players and held the edge in rebounds 45-30, 15 of which were offensive.
