For the second consecutive tournament the Piedmont College volleyball has swept a pair of first day matches, this afternoon to open the Greensboro College Alumni Invitational in Greensboro, NC. The Lady Lions defeated Oglethorpe University 3-1 and then turned around and overpowered tournament host Greensboro College 3-1 in the nightcap.
Against OU, Piedmont rallied after dropping the first set 25-18 to win the final three sets 25-16, 25-19 and 25-23.
NIKKI COLE led the offensive attack with 10 kills while setter
TYLER BALDONADO posted a season best 40 assists. Defensive specialist
JENNIFER GRANLUND led the squad with 14 digs while
MEGHANN CLARK and
RACHEL POWELL combined for six blocks.
The second match featured the Lady Lions again rebounding after dropping the opening frame 25-14 with three consecutive sets 25-16, 25-21 and 25-21. Granlund added to her impressive dig total with a team high 19 while
KATIE TUCKER and Cole combined for 11 blocks. Cole and teammate
KALIN DEMARRAIS both reached double figures in kills with 13 and 12 respectively.
The victories move Piedmont to 5-1 overall. The Lady Lions will hit the floor again tomorrow, September 6th as they square off against Guilford College at 10:00 and Lynchburg College at 2:00.
