Katie Porter posted her 38th career goal this afternoon in the Lady Lions' 5-1 loss at Oglethorpe University.

After their shutout victory to open the season the Piedmont College women's soccer team lost its first match of the year to local rival and host Oglethorpe University this afternoon by the score of 5-1 in Atlanta, GA. The Lady Lions stayed within a goal for 52 minutes before the Stormy Petrels padded their lead with four second half shots that found the back of the net.

Piedmont drops to an even 1-1 overall on the young season. The Lady Lions will open Great South Athletic Conference action next Thursday, September 11th as they host the season-opener at Walker Field against the Pioneers of Wesleyan College starting at 7:00.

OU took an early lead with the first goal of the match at the 20th minute of action. The Lady Lions defense took over and the women entered the half trailing 1-0. Early in the second frame the Stormy Petrels connected on a pair of goals, including the eventual game-winner, at the 52nd and 55th minutes respectively.

Sophomore KATIE PORTER connected on her first goal of the 2008 season beating the keeper at the 58th minute. Porter's unassisted goal, the 38th of her career, brought the Lady Lions within two goals at 3-1. OU tacked on a pair of insurance goals at the 75th and 79th minutes to seal the four-goal victory.
