With seven Great South Athletic Conference matches around the corner the Piedmont College women's soccer team went on the road and defeated local rival Toccoa Falls College in Toccoa, GA by the score of 3-1 in non-conference action tonight. With the score tied 1-1 late in the second half the Lady Lions responded with a pair of goals to seal their fourth victory of the season.
Junior
TERESA MAYE started the scoring with an unassisted goal, the second of her career, at the 22nd minute. Piedmont held the home team scoreless for the remainder of the first half and entered intermission with the 1-0 advantage.
In the second frame the Eagles found the equalizer at the 64th minute to tie the match. Sophomore
KATIE PORTER, last week's GSAC Player of the Week, then posted the eventual game winner on a penalty kick at the 77th minute. The Lady Lions would tack on an insurance goal a mere two minutes later as
JUSTINE CLAY took a
CAITLIN HURD pass and beat the keeper.
Piedmont held the advantage offensively outshooting TFC 12-6. Between the posts
KAITLYN INDUNI picked up her fourth victory notching five saves. The Lady Lions now stand at 2-2 in non-conference matches and 3-2 in road contests.
PC, who now stands at an even 4-4 overall, will return to the pitch again on Tuesday, September 30th as they host GSAC member LaGrange College at Walker Field scheduled to begin at 5:30.
