Defending Great South Athletic Conference champion Maryville College defeated the PC women's soccer team this afternoon at Walker Field by the score of 6-0. The Lady Lions could not overcome the Scots five first half goals and dropped their second conference match of the season.
MC posted the eventual game winning goal a mere two minutes into regulation. Piedmont's defense responded and held the Scots scoreless for the next 25 minutes of action. Maryville tacked on four goals in the span of six minutes before intermission to take control of the match.
In the second half the visiting team added one more insurance goal at the 52nd minute to cap the scoring. Sophomore KATIE PORTER gave the team its best scoring chance nearly beating the Scots keeper. For the match goalkeeper Katelyn Induni notched a season best 10 saves.
The loss drops Piedmont to 3-4 overall and an even 2-2 in the Great South Athletic Conference. The women will look to rebound on Thursday, September 25th as they travel to local rival Toccoa Falls College in Toccoa, GA scheduled to begin at 7:00.
