Volleyball Goes 1-2 At Thomas More College Tournament

In the Thomas More College Tournament libero Jennifer Granlund was the Lady Lions leader in digs for two of the three matches.

The PC volleyball team traveled to the Crestview Hills, KY this afternoon and won one of three matches atthe Thomas More College Tournament. The Lady Lions defeated Centre College in straight sets but fell to Baldwin-Wallace College and host Thomas More by the scores of 3-1 and 3-0 respectively.

In the first match Piedmont handled Centre 25-21, 25-18 and 25-18 for its 11th win of the season. NIKKI COLE led the way with 12 kills while KATIE TUCKER chipped in with seven. Setter TYLER BALDONADO continued her impressive play with 27 assists and a pair of service aces. Cole also added 10 digs while KALIN DEMARRAIS added nine.

In the second match the Lady Lions dropped the first two sets 25-16 and 25-20 before rallying to take the third frame 25-15. PC fell short in the fourth and final set as B-WC pulled out the 25-18 match ending result. DeMarrais and libero JENNIFER GRANLUND notched 12 digs apiece while Tucker added four total blocks at the net. DeMarrais led the Lady Lions in kills with 10, the third time this season she has reached double figures.

In the final match of the day TMC proved to be ungracious hosts handing Piedmont the 25-13, 26-24 and 25-21 loss. Cole and MEGHANN CLARK combined for 16 kills while Granlund again paced the defense with 12 digs. The tandem of Tucker and Cole also combined to block four shots up front.

The Lady Lions now stand at 11-4 overall and will return to the hardwood on Tuesday, September 23rd as they host local rival Toccoa Falls College at Cave Arena beginning at 6:30.
