In a hard fought match this evening under the lights at Walker Field the PC men's soccer team fell to the visiting Scots of Maryville College 2-0. The defending Great South Athletic Conference champions posted single goals in each half to take the shutout victory and spoil the Lions' 2008 home opener.
PC slides to 4-4 overall and an even 1-1 in conference action. The Lions will take on south region powerhouse Emory University on Wednesday, September 24th in Atlanta, GA with kick-off slated for 7:00.
The Scots struck first with at the 32nd minute to take the only lead of the match. Piedmont's defense tightened up and the teams entered the half with the score 1-0. In the second frame Maryville added an insurance goal at the 85th minute dashing the Lions chances and sealing the match.

NICK WEATHERBY gave the Lions their best scoring chance with the squad's on target. The loss marks the first match of the 2008 campaign that PC has dropped in regulation.
