For the first time this season the Piedmont College women's soccer team dropped a Great South Athletic Conference match, this evening to visiting Spelman College at Walker Field by the score of 4-2. The Lady Lions posted the first two goals of the match but the Jaguars responded in the second half with four unanswered en route to victory.
Sophomore
KATIE PORTER opened the scoring at the 10th minute beating the keeper low and right after a deflection for her sixth goal of the year. Just seven minutes later Porter was fouled in the box and notched the penalty kick goal to give PC a 2-0 advantage. The Jaguars answered just before halftime at the 43rd minute to cut the lead in half.
Spelman posted the equalizer at the 55th minute and added the eventual game winner just nine minutes later. With the score 3-2 the Lady Lions best scoring chance was denied by the sidebar bouncing harmlessly out of play. The Jaguars tacked on an insurance goal with only four minutes remaining to seal the match.
The Lady Lions now stand at 3-3 overall and 2-1 in the Great South Athletic Conference. Piedmont will return to action again on Saturday, September 20th as they host defending GSAC champion Maryville College at Walker Field beginning at 4:00.
