In the 2008 home opener at Walker Field the Piedmont College women's soccer team posted its second shutout victory, tonight against visiting Great South Athletic Conference member Wesleyan College by the score of 3-0. The Lady Lions dominated the time of possesion and used three first half goals to cruise to their second victory of the year.
KATIE PORTER posted the eventual game winning goal at the 16th minute with the assist going to junior
ERIN PIPPIN. Five minutes later after a Wesleyan handball in the box Porter connected on a penalty kick for her third goal of the season.
With only three minutes remaining in the first half junior
MELISSA HOFFMAN connected on her ninth career goal with the assist being credited to Porter. The Lady Lions defense took over in the second half as the Pioneers could only get a pair of shots on goal. Katelyn Induni posted her second shutout of the season between the posts with two saves.
PC outshot their conference opponents an impressive 27-3 and did not allow a single corner kick. The victory is the 11th consecutive victory over Wesleyan in which time the Lady Lions have allowed only three goals.
Piedmont, who now stands at 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the Great South Athletic Conference, will return to the pitch again on Saturday, September 13th as they travel to conference foe Huntingdon College in Montgomery, AL with kick-off scheduled for 3:00 CST.
