Stormy Petrels Snap PC's Five-Match Winning Streak 3-1

Middle hitter Katie Tucker posted nine kills and a pair of blocks in the Lady Lions' 3-1 loss at Oglethorpe University this evening in Atlanta, GA.

For only the second time this season the Piedmont College volleyball team suffered a defeat, tonight at the hands of local rival and host Oglethorpe University by the score of 3-1 in Atlanta, GA. The loss evens the season series with OU and snaps the Lady Lions' season long five-match winning streak. 

Piedmont, who now stands at 7-2 overall, will open Great South Athletic Conference action on Saturday, September 13th as they host LaGrange College at 1:00 in Cave Arena. The Lady Lions will also take on south region foe Sewanee-University of the South as part of the three team tri-match beginning at 5:00. 

After PC took the first set 25-23 the home team rallied to take the next three sets 25-18, 25-21 and 25-16 for the come from behind victory. The Stormy Petrel's win marks the first match this season in which the Lady Lions took the first set and did not come away victorious.

Junior NIKKI COLE, last weeks GSAC Player of the Week, continued her impressive play leading the team with 10 kills while KATIE TUCKER closely followed with nine. The tandem combined for a pair of blocks apiece while defensive specialist JENNIFER GRANLUND and KALIN DEMARRAIS added 19 and 13 digs respectively.

Despite the loss Piedmont stands at 8-1 against the Stormy Petrels in the last nine meetings and will host Oglethorpe on Saturday, November 1st in the rubber match of the season series.
