After winning a pair of games yesterday the fifth-ranked Piedmont College baseball team fell to #14 Emory University 6-4 this afternoon in Atlanta, GA. The Lions had opportunities but stranded 12 baserunners, 11 of which were in scoring position en route to the two-run loss.
Piedmont now stands at 24-8 overall and walks away with two of the three games in the season series with the Eagles. The Lions will hit the road for a three-game Great South Athletic Conference weekend at Maryville College in Maryville, TN starting on Friday, April 12th at 7:00.
After Emory jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning with three consecutive hits the Lions answered in the second with a single run as
COREY LINDSEY notched an RBI-single up the middle. The Eagles countered with three runs in their at-bat to take the final lead of the game at 4-1.
In the third
JOHN DUKE plated
COLE SPEDALE on a sacrifice fly to right to bring PC within two runs. Emory posted a pair of insurance runs in the sixth on a two out single that plated two runs. The Lions rallied for two runs in the seventh but could not get closer an dropped the two-run decision.
ANDY HOUSE led the offense going 3-4 while
JOHN DUKE chipped in with a pair of hits and runs batted in.
COREY LINDSEY,
ANDREW MIGETZ, and
COLE SPEDALE also notched multi-hit games as the Lions pounded out 13 hits and swiped six bags.
