The Piedmont College softball team fell this afternoon to visiting LaGrange College in the 2008 Great South Athletic Conference Tournament championship game by the score of 7-6 at PC's Walker Field. The Panthers rallied with seven runs in the sixth inning to take the championship title and earn the league's automatic bid into the NCAA Division-III postseason.
The Lady Lions, who were the visiting team, posted a pair of runs in the top of the first. The score remained 2-0 until the top of the fifth inning when the Lady Lions tacked on three runs on three hits and capitilized on a throwing error.
MEGAN DAY led the inning off with a single and moved up on a
LINDSAY DREVLOW single. Both runners notched stolen bases with Day crossing the plate on a throwing error. After a

EMILY MAXEY posted the first RBI of the game with a sacrifice fly.
LEAH DELLA TORRE capped the scoring with a two-out triple to leftcenter.
The Panthers struck with seven runs on six hits in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead for good. The Lady Lions rallied in the ninth with a single run but could get no closer and dropped the one-run decision.
MEGAN DAY, the Great South Athletic Conference Player of the Year, led the offense going 3-4 with three stolen bases and two runs scored.
LINDSAY DREVLOW went 2-4 with a run scored while
LEAH DELLA TORRE went 1-3 with a pair of runs batted in.
Piedmont finishes the 2008 season with a GSAC regular-season championshp and a tournament runner-up finish. The Lady Lions wrap up the year with an overall record of 28-13.
