PC Softball Team Reaches GSAC Championship Through Loser's Bracket

Top-Seeded Lady Lions Will Face Third-Seeded Lady Panthers In Championship Game

Emily Maxey posted a pair of RBI's on the second day of competition at the 2008 GSAC Tournament at PC's Walker Field.
The top-seeded Piedmont College softball team fell in the winner's bracket of the 2008 Great South Athletic Conference Tournament to LaGrange College by the score of 3-1 but bounced back to defeat Maryville College 10-6. The host Lady Lions will face the Panthers in the championship game tomorrow needing a pair of victories to earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division-III National Tournament.

LC posted a single run in the top of the first but Piedmont countered with the tying run in the home half. After MEGAN DAY led off the inning with a single, EMILY MAXEY posted an RBI-double for the Lady Lions' only run of the game. The Panthers notched the eventual game-winning run in the second and added an insurance run in the third. The Lady Lions went scoreless for the final six innings to drop the two-run decision.

In the elimination game the Scots jumped out with a single run in the top of the first. PC answered with three runs in the home half for the 3-1 advantage. MC would cut the lead to a single run with one in the third while the Lady Lions answered with three runs in the fourth to take a 6-2 lead.

The Scots again rallied with four runs in the fifth to tie the score at 6-6. Piedmont put the game away with four unanswered runs in the bottom of the sixth on five hits. LINDSAY DREVLOW, MARISSA HARDING, and EMILY MAXEY posted RBI-hits en route to the game-winning runs.

B.J. COFER picked up her 15th win of the season out of the bullpen going two and a third innings allowing zero earned runs while allowing only one hit. The Lady Lions will take on the Panthers tomorrow, April 27th in the championship game scheduled to begin at 12:00 weather permitting.
