The Piedmont College baseball fell to Great South Athletic Conference Tournament host LaGrange College in the winner's bracket by the score of 6-5 but avoided elimination with a 15-4 victory over Huntingdon College. The top-seeded Lions advance to the championship game where they will face the Panthers in a rematch of this afternoon's one-run affair.
After PC jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning LaGrange countered with three runs in the home half. The Panthers tacked on a single run in the second and a pair of runs in the third to take the final lead of the game at 6-2. The Lions rallied for three runs in the fifth but stranded five runners in scoring position over the final four innings to drop the one-run decision.
In the elimination game against Huntingdon College the Hawks posted a single unearned run in the top of the first. PC answered with four runs in the bottom of the first and seven runs in the second to take an 11-1 advantage. The Lions would tack on a pair of insurance runs and moved to the championship game with the 15-4 victory.
ANDY GRAF made his first start in three weeks against the Hawks and went six innings to pick up the win.
JOSH STRICKLAND came on to record the three-inning save while the Lions offense exploded for 16 hits and a tournament high 15 runs.
PC will face third-seeded LaGrange College tomorrow, April 21st at 12:00 weather permitting. The Lions must win a pair of games to earn the championship.
