Top-Seeded Baseball Team Moves On In GSAC Tournament With 7-4 Victory Over Maryville

Lions Will Face Host LaGrange In Winner's Bracket

Tom Dimitroff went two scoreless innings for his 13th save of the season in the Lions' 7-4 victory over Maryville College in the GSAC Tournament.

Behind a strong performance from MATT BURGESS the top-seeded Piedmont College baseball team defeated fourth Maryville College by the score of 7-4 in LaGrange, GA to advance in the 2008 Great South Athletic Conference Tournament. The Lions notched 10 hits and scored in three innings including a four-run fifth en route to the victory.

The Lions jumped out with a single unearned run in the bottom of the first and added two runs in the second to take a 3-0 advantage. JUSTIN OATES led the second inning off with a triple and scored on an RBI-groundout from TRAVIS HUNT.  Andy house capped the scoring with a bases loaded walk, his second RBI in as many innings.

The Lions tacked on four runs in the fifth highlighted by four extra base hits. EVAN NISSLEY drove in COREY LINDSEY with a double to rightcenter and scored on an ANDREW MIGETZ RBI-triple. ANDY HOUSE posted his game-high third RBI with a double to leftfield while JARED MOON capped the scoring with a RBI-double.

Maryville would rally in the seventh inning with four earned runs to cut the lead to 7-4. TOM DIMITROFF threw a pair of scoreless innings to finish the game and earn his 13th save of the season. Dimitroff struck out a pair and allowed only one hit en route to the save.

House led the offense going 1-2 with three RBI's while JARED MOON chipped in going 3-5 with an RBI. EVAN NISSLEY went 1-2 with a pair of hit by pitches and three runs scored while Lindsey went 1-3 with a run scored.

The Lions will face third seeded and tournament host LaGrange College tomorrow, April 26th with first-pitch slated for 3:00.
