Softball Team Wraps Up Regular Season By Splitting With Emory

Lady Lions Rebound With Dramatic 3-2 Victory In Nightcap

Michelle Crandall connected on a two-out double that plated a pair of teammates in the Lady Lions' 3-2 victory over Emory University tonight at Walker Field.

The Piedmont College softball team posted a doubleheader split with visiting NCAA Division-III south region rival Emory University this evening at Walker Field dropping game one 9-0 but rebounding to defeat the Eagles 3-2 in the finale. B.J. COFER threw a complete game for her 13th victory of the season in game two to lead the Lady Lions.

In the opener Emory jumped out to a 3-0 lead with a single run in the first and two in the second. After a pair of scoreless innings from both sides the Eagles added four insurance runs in the fifth and tacked on two more for good measure in the seventh to cap the scoring. EMILY MAXEY was the bright spot for Piedmont offensively going 2-3 while NIKKI EASTMAN chipped in with the Lady Lions only other hit.

In the second game PC scored the eventual game-winning three runs in the bottom of the third. HANNAH MCKAY led things off with a single and scored on MEGAN DAY's sacrifice bunt that was thrown away. After the next two hitters were retired EMILY MAXEY drew a two out walk to keep the inning alive. MICHELLE CRANDALL then connected on the game-winning two-RBI double.

The Eagles posted single runs in the fourth and fifth inning but could get no closer and dropped the one-run affair. B.J. COFER was impressive going the distance scattering 10 hits while striking out four and walking only one. HANNAH MCKAY was 2-3 with a triple and a run scored.

The win moves Piedmont to 26-11 overall. The Lady Lions will return to action on Friday, April 25th as they enter the 2008 Great South Athletic Conference tournament as the top seed and will play their first round game at approximately 3:30. The tournament will take place at Walker Field on the campus of Piedmont College.
