Softball Team Splits Non-Conference Doubleheader With Centre

PC Takes Game One 6-5, Drops Finale 4-2

Marissa Harding went 3-7 with three RBI's and a run scored in the Lady Lions' doubleheader split with Centre College this afternoon at Walker Field.

Against visiting NCAA Division-III south region foe Centre College the Piedmont College softball team notched a doubleheader split this afternoon winning the first game 6-5 but falling in the finale 4-2 at PC's Walker Field. The Lady Lions used a six-run third inning in the opener but allowed four runs in the top of the seventh of game to for the split.

In the first game Centre jumped out to a 3-0 advantage with a single run in the second and two runs in the third. The Lady Lions responded in the home half of the third with six runs on six hits to take the final lead of the game.

In the rally LINDSAY DREVLOW posted the first RBI with a single followed by a two-RBI single off the bat of MARISSA HARDING. EMILY MAXEY then singled for another run batted in while NIKKI EASTMAN posted an RBI on a double. MICHELLE BRODERICK capped the scoring with a two-out RBI single.

The Colonels rallied in the fifth with two runs but could get no closer and dropped the one-run decision. LINDSAY DREVLOW went the distance striking out seven hitters while scattering nine hits. Harding led the offense going 2-4 with a pair of RBI's while MEGAN DAY posted a pair of hits and a run scored.

In game two Piedmont took an early lead with a pair of runs in the first inning. Harding posted her third RBI of the day with a sacrifice fly followed by a Maxey RBI-single. The 2-0 advantage held until Centre posted four unanswered runs in the top of the seventh to take the series finale 4-2.

The Lady Lions move to 25-10 overall and will play host to NCAA Division-III south region foe Emory University on Tuesday, April 22nd with game time scheduled for 5:00 at Walker Field.
