Softball Team Clinches GSAC Regular Season Title With Doubleheader Sweep

Lady Lions Secure #1 Seed With 17-0, 14-3 Victories Over Agnes Scott

Lady Lions clinch Great South regular season with doubleheader sweep of Agnes Scott College.

The Piedmont College softball team clinched the 2008 Great South Athletic Conference regular season title with a pair of victories over visiting Agnes Scott College 17-0 and 14-3 this afternoon at PC's Walker Field. The Lady Lions also secured the top seed in the upcoming GSAC Conference Tournament that will be hosted here in Demorest next weekend.

In the first game the Lady Lions jumped out with 12 runs in the first inning to take a commanding lead. PC tacked on five more runs and held the Scotties scoreless to cruise to the game one victory. MICHELLE CRANDALL led the offense with four hits while LINDSAY DREVLOW went the distance for her first shutout of the season.

In the second game the Lady Lions put the game out of reach with nine runs in the third inning. LEAH DELLA TORRE led the offense with a grand slam in-the-park homerun to pace the offense. MICHELLE BRODERICK threw a complete game for her second victory of the year.

The victory moves Piedmont to 24-9 overall and 11-1 in GSAC action. The victories clinch the regular season title for Piedmont and gives them a #1 seed in the upcoming GSAC tournament. The Lady Lions will wrap up the regular season tomorrow, April 20th as they host Centre College on Senior Day beginning at 2:00.
