#10 Lions Win GSAC Regular Season Outright By Pounding LaGrange 19-5

Piedmont Earns #1 Seed In Upcoming GSAC Tournament

Matt Burgess picked up his fourth victory of the season this afternoon as the Lions clinched the GSAC regular season title with a 19-5 pounding of LaGrange College.
The Piedmont College baseball team defeated Great South Athletic Conference host LaGrange College this afternoon by the score of 19-5 in LaGrange, GA. The #10 ranked Lions notched 11 runs in the fourth inning en route to the 14-run victory.

After LaGrange retired the side in order in the top of the first, the Panthers took a 2-0 advantage with a pair of runs in the home half. The Lions answered in the third inning with two runs on one hit to knot the score at 2-2. LC answered with a single run in the bottom of the third setting up the offensive explosion in the fourth.

PC notched 11 runs on nine hits and sent a season high 15 men to the plate. TRAVIS HUNT led the offense in the fourth with a pair of doubles and five RBI's while EVAN NISSLEY added a pair of hits and three RBI's.

After both teams traded single runs in the fifth and the Panthers score one in the eighth, the Lions capped the scoring with five runs in the ninth as MATT DEVITO, BLAKE ALBERTSON, JUSTIN OATES, ZAC STEIN, and DANIEL RIVERA recorded RBI's.

MATT BURGESS went five innings to pick up his fourth victory of the year while B.J. HAMPTON went four innings allowing only one run for his first save of the season. The Lions now stand at 29-8 overall and 7-1 in the Great South Athletic Conference. These two teams will wrap up the season series tomorrow, April 20th beginning at 1:00.
