#10 Lions Shutout LaGrange To Clinch #1 Seed In Upcoming GSAC Tournament

Spencer Shelton Goes The Distance His First Shutout Of The Season

Sophomore Spencer Shelton improved to 6-0 on the mound with a complete game shutout tonight against LaGrange College.
Behind a stellar pitching performance from SPENCER SHELTON, the Piedmont College baseball team defeated Great South Athletic Conference host LaGrange College by the score of 5-0 tonight in LaGrange, GA. The Lions, currently ranked #10 nationally, played flawless defense and recorded five runs on seven hits for the victory.

After going scoreless for the first two innings Piedmont scratched the eventual game-winning run in the third inning. COREY LINDSEY drew a one out walk and advanced to second on an error. After a COLE SPEDALE walk to load the bases ANDREW MIGETZ recorded his second game-winning RBI in as many contests with a sacrifice fly to centerfield.

The Lions tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the fifth as Spedale notched a one out RBI-single and senior ANDY HOUSE recorded a two out triple to cap the scoring. In the ninth inning PC added a pair of unearned runs capitilizing on a pair of Panthers errors.

Shelton went nine innings allowing only five hits while striking out three to improve to 6-0 on the season and 3-0 in Great South Athletic Conference action. Spedale led the offense going 2-4 with a pair of RBI's and a run scored while Lindsey went 2-3 with three runs scored.

PC moves to 28-8 overall and 6-1 in the Great South Athletic Conference. Tonight's victory gives the Lions at least a share of the regular season title and guarantees a #1 seed in next week's conference tournament.
